Climb to the 1000 m NN mark at Schneekopf near Gehlberg - the highest point in Thuringia - and enjoy a bird's eye view of the Thuringian Forest. Secured by a climbing rope, you can indulge in the high altitude exhilaration and prove your skill on various climbing routes.

19 meters of climbing wall with 8 different routes on 3 walls in difficulty level 3 - 7 offer the right thing for every skill level.
Small structural overhangs and heels add to the appeal of our new layout.
It is possible to climb 'top rope', in the lead climbing as well as abseiling. Experienced trainers with modern equipment design the individual programs.

The Schneekopf was already mentioned in 1540. It served as an astronomical observation point in the 18th century. It was developed for tourism in the 19th century. From 1938 to 1945 and from 1960 to 1990 it was used exclusively for military purposes. Snow guaranteed in winter sports opportunities and unique hiking trails with views over the whole of Thuringia to the Brocken, make the Schneekopf the most popular mountain in the Thuringian Forest.

The Schneekopf is of volcanic origin and was already mentioned in 1540. It served as an astronomical observation point in the 18th century.
It was developed for tourism in the 19th century. From 1938 to 1945 and from 1960 to 1990 it was used exclusively for military purposes.
Nowadays it is a popular excursion place because of the excellent view far into the country. The climbing tower offers the possibility to crack the "magic" 1000 meter mark and to reach the highest point of Thuringia.

New Gehlberg hutNew Gehlberg hut

The "Neue Gehlberger Hütte" is a mountain inn on the Schneekopf.
The restaurant is designed for 50 guests. In addition, the cosy guesthouse has approx. 40 terrace seats. Overnight accommodations for approx. 20 hiking friends are planned. In the cold season a fireplace provides a pleasant and comfortable atmosphere.

After receiving the summit certificate from Klettertum, you should definitely strengthen yourself in the Neue Gehlberger Hütte. You must try the traditional home cooking & delicacies!

A competent trainer with modern safety equipment will be at your side during the climbing appointments.
Individual climbers also or only at these times have the possibility to climb independently.
